The Lemonade Diaries - Week 2

The Anxiety Nobody Saw

If you had seen me during those first few weeks after losing my job, you probably wouldn't have noticed anything different.

I smiled.

I carried on conversations.

I told people I was doing okay.

But what most people couldn't see was what was happening inside.

I was anxious.

Not because I doubted God.

But because I was human.

For over 40 years, my life had a rhythm. I knew where I was going every morning. I had responsibilities, people depending on me, meetings to attend, problems to solve, and goals to accomplish.

Then suddenly...silence.

No alarm clock reminding me to get ready for work.

No meetings on my calendar.

No team waiting for my leadership.

Just me.

And my thoughts.

Those thoughts were loud.

What if I never find another job?

What if I've reached the end of my career?

Am I too old to start over?

Can I really build something of my own?

I prayed.

Some days I prayed with confidence.

Other days I prayed through tears.

I wish I could tell you my anxiety disappeared overnight.

It didn't.

But something began to change.

Instead of asking God to immediately remove my fear, I started asking Him to help me trust Him while I was afraid.

That changed everything.

Because courage isn't the absence of fear.

Courage is deciding that fear doesn't get the final word.

One morning, as I sat quietly with my Bible and my journal, I realized something.

For the first time in decades, my schedule belonged to me.

At first, that felt terrifying.

Then it began to feel like a gift.

Maybe God wasn't emptying my calendar.

Maybe He was making room.

Making room for ideas I had postponed.

Making room for dreams I had delayed.

Making room to invest in Just One Women's Circle in ways I never could before.

I started to see that anxiety and faith can exist in the same moment.

Faith isn't pretending everything is okay.

Faith is believing God is working, even when you can't yet see what He's doing.

Today, I still have moments when uncertainty creeps in.

But I've learned not to let fear make my decisions.

I've decided that if God brought me to this season, He will also carry me through it.

Maybe that's what faith really looks like.

Not having every answer.

Just taking the next step.

One day at a time.

One prayer at a time.

One act of faith at a time.

If you're carrying anxiety today, I want you to know you're not alone.

Sometimes the strongest people are the ones quietly asking God for strength when no one else is watching.

And maybe, just maybe, your anxiety isn't the end of your story.

Maybe it's the place where your faith begins to grow.

Reflection

What fear have you been carrying that you need to place in God's hands today?

"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."1 Peter 5:7

I hope you realize that it is reassuring for people to know others are going through major life events without showing it too. There is someone out there thinking it is their journey alone when, in reality, the person next to them or closest to them may be going through a similar experience. Thank you for being brave enough to share your experience and give us a glimpse into the journey on which you are traveling. If there is anything I can do (outside of praying with and for you that comes without asking) to make your journey lighter, please don't hesitate to let me know.
